Jennifer Terzian Gallery | Aliza Morell: Streamers
Aliza Morell's latest body of work translates the sculptural language of ribbon and cardboard into paintings that chase the shifting, unphotographable quality of lenticular surfaces.
Working from two dimensional constructions transferred to canvas through a layered material process, Morell explores color not as description but as projection, drawing equally from Albers, Sandback, and the everyday spectacle of dollar store window displays.
The resulting paintings hold both hope and tragedy in balance, marking, like the streamers that inspire them, the site of an event whose only content is the act of looking.
