7 Senses For The 7th Month: July at Belden

JULY: 7 SENSES FOR THE 7th MONTH

Firstly, we still have some availability for the July 4th holiday weekend, so join us in our thoughtfully appointed rooms, no two alike, that await you in Belden's 1888 Victorian "House" and 1959 modernist "Mews."

Every sense is considered...

I. See: The design is telling you our story, where you are, what lovely Litchfield is all about. Local craftsmen and artists have contributed heavily to our decor, in details like lamps throughout by Litchfield ceramicist Dumais Made; beds in the Mews and tables throughout by nearby furniture-making legend, Ian Ingersoll; tactile, natural wall coverings by twenty2 Grasscloth, custom made for each of our rooms and incorporating original details of the 1888 home, such as wallpaper and tin ceiling motifs found in our restoration, and signatures of the craftsmen who originally built the home.

II. Hear: Adjust the Bluetooth Tivoli Audio stereo — every room has one — to play the music that suits your mood, or open the window to the sound of birdsong. In common areas, curated music from Litchfield County resident, DJ Bea Hardy, plays on Belden's custom playlists. Follow along on Spotify here

III. Taste: Lovely meals from morning to night, Belden's chef Tyler Heckman sources the best of what's grown on Litchfield County farms and fished in East Coast waters. A sense of place is offered on the plate and on the palate. Join us for breakfast, lunch and dinner, with a reservation.

CULTURE CAL: HEAR HERE

July sounds fun: our friends at South Farms host their Morris Bluegrass Festival, featuring 2-time Grammy-nominated band, The Special Consensus, and The Litchfield Jazz Festival later this month.

Reminder that this weekend is Ripley Waterfowl Conservancy's benefit and we've donated a 1-night stay in Belden's Penthouse Suite (3 king bedrooms, all ensuite, with private living room, dining room, kitchenette & terrace) to their auction. If you're coming to stay with us, a visit to Ripley's is an inspiring, educational, not-to-be missed experience, 5 minutes from here.

IV. Touch: Bathhouse, Belden's private wellness center available to guests, offers a suite of Wildsmith Treatments, designed to support recovery, repair and balance, and are inspired by the universal principle of circadian rhythm and delivered by highly trained practitioners who will guide and help deliver profound results.

V. Feel: Our Thermal Experiences incorporate our wet room — with steam (pictured at right), sauna, an Ofuro tub, salt scrubbing station and cold plunge shower.

SMELL THE FLOWERS

We've just launched our Litchfield County Town Guides, curated suggestions of what to do here in Litchfield and in nearby towns.

VI. Scent: This time of year, it's nature that commands our attention. Inhale the blooming beauty at Hollister House Garden in Washington, 13 miles west of here. Take some buds home with you from nursery mecca White Flower Farm, which is celebrating its 75th year.

The nation’s first law school was established there, as was the first all-female academy. The abolitionist author of Uncle Tom’s Cabin, Harriet Beecher Stowe, grew up on North Street with her firebrand minister father, Lyman Beecher. In the 20th century, that weighty heritage was leavened by the hands of modernist architects Marcel Breuer, Richard Neutra, and Eliot Noyes, who scattered glass-walled masterpieces around Litchfield, the latter notably in the form of an annex to the public library.

BH&M IN THE PRESS

Belden received an exceptional and thoughtful review in Travel + Leisure "First In" by journalist Marcia DeSanctis, framed amid our Litchfield environs and its history of creativity.

Our collaboration with Champalimaud Design also garnered praise in Lodging Magazine

VII. Intuition: Praise like this speaks to our seventh sense, Anticipatory Hospitality, thinking of what you'll want or need before you think it. Did you know that's a thing? It is. We can't wait to welcome you here.
