Newsletter: October Bounty in Litchfield County

October 3, 2025

October on North Street & Nearby

The days are finally becoming crisp here, and the evenings make for the very best sleeping weather, particularly when ensconced in Frette sheets on a king bed, which is what we have throughout Belden House & Mews.

The pool is warm and will remain open for a few more days, weather dependent. Litchfield town and county — with all of their cultural offerings and abundant natural beauty — await.

Open Daily For Breakfast, Lunch & Dinner

A serene place to start the day, meet a friend for a lovely lunch or dine sumptuously at dinner, Belden is open to the public, with reservations strongly suggested. Current dinner entrees include Octopus with Honeynut Squash & Smoked Yogurt; Steelhead Trout with local corn & aji amarillo; Braised Short Rib with sunchoke & persimmon, and Dry Aged Duck, stonefruit & almond mustard.

CULTURE CALENDAR

There's so much to do nearby in October. From Silo Ridge Masters and Highland Cup Concerts, to fungi-focused walks at White Memorial, Trick or Tweet at Ripley Waterfowl Conservancy and, everyone's annual favorite, Scarecrows in the Meadow at Tapping Reeve, Belden's Culture Calendar is stocked with ways to enjoy our region. We are particularly looking forward to GRANDMOTHER MOON by Wunneanatsu Lamb-Cason booksigning and author talk at IAIS Museum. Be sure to see Kiva Motnyk: Object & Thing at Troutbeck, the exhibition of original fiber-based work (pictured at right).

MUSIC MATTERS

As with each design detail, Belden's "soundtrack" was highly considered and sourced locally. Bea Hardy, a Brooklyn-based DJ, music curator and sonic branding consultant, who also happens to have a family home in Litchfield County, was the perfect partner in creating the right vibe. Belden sat down with Bea to learn about her process: "The brand sets the tone for how it wants people to feel and what it wants them to remember," explains Bea. "Music becomes a way to translate that ethos into atmosphere: making the space both cohesive and unforgettable."

It was like that hush of spirit which we feel amid the bright, mild woods of autumn, when the bright hectic flush is on the trees, and the last lingering flowers by the brook; and we joy in it all the more, because we know that soon it will all pass away.
